Campaign Finance Reform Voting Bloc - Massachusetts
Goal: |
Prevent candidates from both major political parties from taking campaign contributions from lobbyists, corporations and PAC’s (Political Action Committees). |
Why: |
Although most Massachusetts voters support more effective campaign finance reform laws both major political parties continue to ignore the issue. They both receive enormous amounts of money from lobbyists, corporations and PAC’s and refuse to change the system that funds them. As a return on their investments lobbyists, corporations and PAC’s continue to receive a disproportionate amount of influence over our government and effectively steer policy in their own favor.
Campaign finance reform is the crucial first step toward cleaning up our government and strengthening our democracy. Lobbyists, corporations and PAC’s have money and access to power but in the end they do not have the power and the right to vote. We can counter their influence and push for true reform with our votes.
|
How: |
Join this voting bloc to let Massachusetts candidates know that you will not consider voting for them unless they voluntarily refuse to accept campaign contributions from lobbyists, corporations and PAC’s. Although we cannot prevent these groups from giving candidates money we can withhold our votes from candidates that accept it.
According to the Boston Globe in the race for Senate so far only two candidates Alan Khazei and Stephen Pagliuca have refused to accept money from Lobbyists and PAC's. Martha Coakley and Michael Capuano have indicated that they will accept the money.
